RP018 Instructions

1– Remove the old fill cap lid by firmly holding it down or pull it while lifting up on the fill cap lever

2- Place the new fill cap lid with duckbill valve on the fill cap collar and place the ring over the socket on the lid.

3- Align the ball on the lever with the socket on the fill cap lid.

4- Press down on the fill cap lever until the ball snaps into the socket on the fill cap lid.

Why does my fuel can collapse?

• This is due to the combined gas law, which simply put, when the temperature of gas changes the volume of the gas will either decrease or increase. When the temperature of the gas decreases, the volume of the gas inside the can decreases, causing the can to suck in with it. 

How does the duckbill valve work?

• When gases get cold, they condense. This condensing within an air tight container creates an internal suction within the can causing it to collapse. The duckbill valve allows the can to maintain internal pressure when temperatures drop by allowing small amounts of air to enter the can and prevent it from collapsing.  

Will the duckbill valve leak fuel?

• No, the duckbill valve is designed and tested to only allow very small amounts of air into the can and reseal with any pressure from inside. 

Can I put this fill cap on my old EPA SureCan?

• Though they do fit the EPA style SureCans made prior to May 2022, these fill caps adhere to different Safety Can regulations that are regulated by OSHA, while the non-safety cans adhere to EPA and CARB regulations and are not legally allowed on EPA regulated cans.
