1949 Chevy Lawn Care Truck Setup

My name is Andrew from Fresh Cuts Lawn Maintenance and mowing the yard as a kid was something I always enjoyed doing. This eventually led to working for a lawn business in high school and working as a groundskeeper at a local community college after high school. I even had my own side gig mowing lawns for a couple years outside of mowing at the college, until I got hired on at the Fire Department. After nearly 7 years at the fire department, working as a firefighter/paramedic, I changed gears and decided I wanted to be my own boss.

In 2018 I decided I wanted to start a lawn business. Yard work is both something I’m good at and enjoy doing. I also like to be different and I wanted the look of my company to stand out from the crowd. My 3 year old son, who had recently been to the barber shop, said that he got a “fresh cut”. I thought it was funny of him to say, and I also thought It would be a cool company name. This led to my logo resembling an old school barber pole…which led to the idea to use an old school truck for my lawn rig. So after lots of looking, I purchased a 1949 Chevrolet 3100. It already had a late model drive-train and V8 engine that I needed. The truck needed to be painted though, but I didn’t need a show quality job for a work truck. I ended up buying some sandpaper and Rustoleum spray paint to paint the truck myself in my garage. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but after painting the first fender I was pretty surprised with the outcome and ended up spray painting the whole truck. To hold some of my equipment, I added some equipment racks from Equipment Defender to the bed of the truck and added a trailer hitch so I could hook up a trailer.

Once I started getting equipment together, I needed gas cans! I came across SureCans and loved the concept of their gas cans. I especially liked having it mounted in the rack on my truck, because it makes it so easy and convenient to fill equipment up with gas. These gas cans are a game changer for anyone. SureCans are spill-proof, extremely high quality and extremely durable. They also have great customer service and are a USA based company.

When I fill up my SureCans with fuel, or when I fill up my truck, I also add STA-BIL fuel treatment. Adding STA-BIL to your fuel is always a great idea to prevent damage from ethanol and corrosion. Its a cheap, easy way to prevent costly problems later down the road and keep your engines running top notch. It also is a great way to keep your fuel fresh all winter long if you have fuel stored away for winter in cans or equipment. Untreated fuel can go bad quickly and damage your engine. STA-BIL has a bunch of different options to keep your engine running strong whether its a lawn mower or a truck.

Once you get a Surecan, you’ll be glad you did!
